A Healthier Lifestyle for a Breast Cancer Free Life?

The fight against breast cancer does not start when you are diagnosed with it!
More and more you can hear and read facts that leading a certain kind of lifestyle can help minimize the risks of having breast cancer. Indeed, some studies showed that having a healthy diet and exercising are recommended to prevent breast cancer.
Causes for Breast Cancer
According to some studies conducted by the University of Rochester Medical Centre a high rate of oestrogen is linked to breast cancer which also explains the fact that post-menopause women are more likely to have the disease as they are usually on hormonal pills. As a result, exercising becomes a key factor to decreasing the risks as it lowers your level of oestrogen. The best would be to exercise around 30 minutes at least 5 days a week, however you can start slowly and gradually increase the time spent on physical activities.
Moreover, getting AND staying slim is also important as- according to the American Cancer Society- obese women with menopause double their risk to get breast cancer compared to women with a healthy weight as fatty tissues produce more oestrogen! So in addition to exercising, you have to eat healthy and low fat food. The best way to lower your daily amount of fat is to avoid fat from meat and dairy products and add fish to your diet to get the protein you need without the fat. Beans, lentils and legumes are excellent meat substitutes, and some studies have also proved that a diet rich in soybeans - which is a source of vitamin D- may help protect against breast cancer. Indeed, Breast cancer patients who were deficient in vitamin D were 94% more likely to have their cancer spread than other patients!
